Next on the target list for HMRC attacks looks to be electricians.
It looks like this will start on 12 January 2012.
This will be yet another industry specific disclosure opportunity and is likely to follow the same pattern as for plumbers, doctors, and tutors, with a very narrow disclosure window for registration and a special penalty reduction on offer for those who take up the offer.
Once again it is worth considering as the alternative will be the brown envelop for those who don't and a much greater penalty - up to 100% of the tax they find due.
Remember, it is always better to approach the Taxman and get your tax affairs sorted out than to wait for him to come calling. If you don't believe me, at least find out for yourself the consequences of being investigated by HMRC.
